Who we are

Turkey for Americans (www.turkeyforamericans.com) is an independent travel publication. We are the data controller for the information described here. Questions or requests: hello@turkeyforamericans.com.

The short version

What we collect and why

When you read the site

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookie and stores no IP address; it records the page address (without its query string), the referring site, the country, and the browser and device type, aggregated so we can see which guides are useful. Our web host (Vercel) and our image host (Cloudflare) process your IP address briefly to deliver pages and images, as any website must. Interactive maps load map tiles from OpenFreeMap / OpenStreetMap, which receive your IP address when a map is shown.

When you click a booking link that goes through /go/, we record which link was clicked, on which page, and your browser's user-agent string, to count clicks. We do not record your IP address.

Free guide

If you enter your email to download a free guide, we store the address and which guide you asked for. We may email you about new or updated guides for Turkey; every such email has an unsubscribe link. Legal basis: your consent.

Buying the guide

Payment is handled by Stripe on its own checkout page; we never see your card number. Stripe gives us your name, email, country and the order details. We use them to deliver the guide, resend it if you ask, and keep accounting records. We also add your email to our list for guide updates; you can unsubscribe from the first email. Legal basis: contract, legal obligation (tax records) and legitimate interest (updates to a guide you bought). The guide is also sold on Etsy; a purchase there is governed by Etsy's privacy policy.

Custom trip plan

If you order a trip plan, we store your name, email and the answers you give about your trip, and use them only to prepare and send your plan. Payment is handled by Stripe as above. Legal basis: contract.

When you email us

We keep your message and address to answer you.

Cookies and similar technologies

This site sets no cookies. If you use “Save for my trip”, the list is kept in your own browser's local storage and never sent to us. Some pages keep a short-lived cache in session storage to load faster. Neither is used to track you, so no consent banner is needed.

When you follow a booking link to a partner (for example GetYourGuide, Trip.com, Agoda or Airalo), that partner may set its own cookies on its own site to credit the referral. Their privacy policies apply there. See our disclosures for how affiliate links work.

Who processes your data for us

Some of these providers are in the United States. Where data about visitors from the EU, UK or Switzerland is transferred there, it is covered by the provider's Standard Contractual Clauses or its certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

How long we keep it

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you, correct or delete the data we hold about you, and to stop emailing you. If you are in the EU, UK or Switzerland (GDPR), you also have the right to data portability, to object, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to your data protection authority. If you are a California resident, you have the right to know, delete and correct your personal information; we do not sell or share it, and we will not treat you differently for using these rights. Write to hello@turkeyforamericans.com; we answer within 30 days.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change what we collect, we update this page and the date at the top.
