The method

Why we make this call

The provenance marks on every page grade individual facts. This page grades the reasoning instead — a few of Turkey, Worked Out.’s calls, with what they depend on, what we still don’t know, and the case that would flip them. Nothing here is new content; it’s the same editorial record the book already keeps, made readable before you buy.

Why we don't tell you whether you're covered

The call
The book never says "a balloon ride is covered" or "you're insured for this." It names two separate policies in play — the operator's liability cover and your own personal policy — and tells you which questions to ask and which clauses to read.
What it depends on
Operator liability insurance and personal travel/medical insurance have different triggers and different limits (p.19, p.27) — one does not substitute for the other, and which applies depends on fault, not just on being injured.
What we don’t know
Your own policy's exact wording. We can name the two policies that matter; we cannot read the one in your inbox.
What would flip it
A policy with no activity-exclusion rider makes the whole "read both policies" step moot for that traveller — but nobody knows that until they actually check.
What we refused
"Balloon rides in Turkey are covered by travel insurance" — a one-line verdict that would be true for some readers' policies and false for others, stated with no way to tell them apart.

Last changed: 2026-10-10 — a third-round fact audit found one table cell still excluded medical costs from operator liability categorically, contradicting the book's own corrected paragraph two pages earlier; the cell was rewritten to match.
